Capt John 12 Hour Offshore Saturday July 9, 2016
For todays 12 hour offshore trip by the party boat Capt. John the 82 anglers aboard were headed south that was the general direction chosen by Captain Johnny Williams after the Pier 19 leave and later exiting the Galveston jetties.
The offshore run was ended at around the fifty mile mark where stops were made over natural bottom structure and a wreck. Those stops in 110 feet of water had the red snapper being at home and biting. Biting the squid or sardine baits from the mid-depths to the bottom that is. Along with the red ones were a pair of vermillions and a ling, the red snapper limit in particular went to a nice 14 pounds.
The total catch species and numbers were:
166 red snapper to 14#
2 vermillion snapper
1 ling
As far as the red snapper limit goes, don’t forget this coming Saturday is the last day this year that the fishery is open in federal waters….June 2017 and the probable re-opening is a long way off. Get on the boat!
See you on the Capt. John!
