Capt. John 12 Hour Offshore Thursday August 4, 2016

This offshore trip by the party boat Capt. John was a 12 hour charter by Hensel Phelps Construction from Houston. Thomas Kulick headed up the group of 15.

Captain Johnny Williams first took them to the Claypile area about 65 miles to the SSE of the island. Vermillion snapper were the primary target but strong currents made fishing to be on the bit difficult side. While in the area the stops did produce vermillions but not in the numbers anticipated, and assortment of other bottom dwellers and a dolphin were also taken. That’s a dolphin as in “mahi-mahi.”

Working back toward the island had a couple of shrimp boats being drift fished. The two hi-lights of the trip were taken on freelined Spanish sardines, a pair of really nice ling going an estimated 45 and 60 pounds each.

Todays total catch included:

18 Vermillion snapper

1 Lane snapper

2 Gulf trout

17 Blue runner

9 Bonnet head shark

2 Ling of 45 & 60 pounds each

Those two shrimp boat ling were a great topper fro this, or any other offshore trip.

See you on the Capt. John!
