Capt. John 12 Hour Offshore—Wed. March 16, 2016

Finally the weather Gods smiled and the party boat Capt John was off on a 12 hour offshore fishing trip.  With Captain Johnny Williams at the wheel a south southeasterly run began just after passing thru the Galveston jetties.  The fishing area chosen for the 55 fishermen was over natural bottom structure in around 120 feet of water, 65 miles out.  The baits of cut squid or whole spanish sardines, fished from the mid-depths to the bottom worked well on the locals down there. Vermillion snapper were the primary target species. The usual cast of characters made up the remainder of the days catch before the return run to Galveston’s Pier 19 began.

Todays catch totals were:

  • 361 vermillion snapper
  • 3 mangrove snapper
  • 1 lane snapper
  • 1 amberjack
  • 3 almaco jack
  • 4 rockhind grouper
  • 5 triggerfish
  • 2 bluerunner
  • 2 grunt

See you on the Capt. John!
